Abstract: Spatial planning of mountain regions in Bulgaria requires close cooperation between the public and private sectors, the local population and the natural environment to achieve sustainable development. It, in turn, requires the cooperation and multi-sectoral involvement of stakeholders. We will consider the problems of tourism development and planning in mountain resorts in Bulgaria, which will allow us to analyze the theoretical and practical possibilities for achieving sustainable development. Emphasis is placed on the concept of sustainable development, the state of tourism in selected mountain resorts in Bulgaria, the development of a model for their sustainable development, and the trends for the sector after overcoming the crisis with COVID-19.
Keywords: sustainable planning and development; mountain resorts; model for sustainable year-round development; alliances between the private and public sector.
